There is something truly special about the Fourth of July in the Lowcountry. The smell of barbecue in the air, the sound of cicadas buzzing in the pine trees, and that unmistakable sense of community pride that fills the streets of Flowertown. But this year isn’t just any Independence Day: it’s the big one.
Welcome to 2026, the year of America’s 250th birthday! The Semiquincentennial is a milestone that only comes around once in a lifetime, and Summerville is pulling out all the stops to make sure this celebration is one for the history books. From high-tech laser shows at our newest parks to traditional fireworks that light up the night sky over Gahagan, the lineup is bigger and better than ever.
Whether you are a lifelong resident or a visitor looking to experience a true Southern Fourth, we’ve rounded up the ultimate guide to everything happening in and around Summerville this holiday weekend.
July 1 : Liberty Laser Show at Ashley River Park
We are kicking off the holiday week early this year with a modern twist on a classic tradition. On Wednesday, July 1, head over to Ashley River Park for the Liberty Laser Show.
In recent years, laser shows have become a popular alternative to traditional fireworks, especially in areas with sensitive local wildlife or for families who prefer a slightly quieter (but no less spectacular) experience. This synchronized laser display will be set to a high-energy soundtrack of patriotic favorites and modern hits. The lasers will dance across the evening sky, reflecting off the water and creating an immersive light experience that you have to see to believe.
Ashley River Park is the perfect venue for this event. With its wide-open lawns and scenic river views, there isn’t a bad seat in the house. This is a family-friendly event, so grab your picnic blankets and your favorite lawn chairs and come early to snag a spot.
Important Note: Because this is one of our most popular new traditions, pre-registration is required to manage park capacity. Be sure to check the official event page early to secure your spot.
🌽 July 4 (Morning) : Summerville Farmers Market
Before the sun sets and the fireworks begin, there is no better place to spend your Saturday morning than the Summerville Farmers Market. Located right behind Town Hall, the market is the heartbeat of our community every Saturday, but the Fourth of July edition always has a little extra “spark.”
Expect to find our local farmers with tables overflowing with the best of the summer harvest: juicy South Carolina peaches, vine-ripened tomatoes, and sweet corn that’s perfect for your afternoon cookout. Our local artisans and makers often release limited-edition patriotic items, from hand-poured “Firecracker” candles to red-white-and-blue floral arrangements.
Shopping local at the Summerville Farmers Market is a great way to support the small businesses that make Summerville so unique. Plus, with live music playing in the background and the smell of fresh coffee and kettle corn in the air, it’s the most relaxing way to start your holiday celebrations.

🎆 July 4 : Fireworks & Freedom Festival (Summerville)
When it comes to the main event, the Fireworks & Freedom Festival at Gahagan Park is where you want to be. This is Summerville’s signature Independence Day celebration, and for the 250th anniversary of the United States, the town is going all out.
The festival kicks off in the late afternoon with a massive lineup of food trucks serving everything from classic burgers to Lowcountry boils. There will be live entertainment on the main stage and a dedicated “Kids Zone” with inflatables and games to keep the little ones busy until the sun goes down.
In honor of America’s 250th birthday, this year features a very special addition: a public reading of the Declaration of Independence. It’s a powerful moment of reflection and community before the sky erupts in color. Once the sun dips below the horizon, get ready for one of the largest fireworks displays in the history of Summerville.

July 4 : Moncks Corner Independence Day Celebration
Just a short drive from Summerville, our neighbors in Moncks Corner are hosting their own massive celebration. Held at the Moncks Corner Regional Recreation Complex, this event is perfect for those who want a high-energy community atmosphere.
The Moncks Corner celebration runs from 6 PM to 10 PM and features a wide variety of vendors, live music that will have everyone on their feet, and a fireworks finale that rivals any in Berkeley County. It’s a great alternative if you’re looking to explore a different part of the region while still getting that hometown feel.

🎇 Other Lowcountry Celebrations
If you’re feeling adventurous and want to see how the rest of the Lowcountry celebrates America’s 250th, there are several incredible options within a short drive of Summerville:
- Goose Creek: Their annual Fabulous 4th in the Creek celebration at the Marguerite H. Brown Municipal Center is always a hit, featuring food vendors, live music, and a beautiful fireworks show.
- North Charleston: Head to Riverfront Park for one of the area’s largest fireworks displays. The view of the Cooper River with fireworks overhead is truly iconic.
- Patriots Point (Mount Pleasant): Celebrate aboard the historic USS Yorktown. Watching the fireworks over the Charleston Harbor from the deck of a legendary aircraft carrier is an experience you’ll never forget.
- The Beaches: If you prefer sand between your toes, Isle of Palms and Folly Beach both offer beachfront fireworks. For a slightly more relaxed and quiet experience, Sullivan’s Island is the place to be.
- St. George’s 7th Annual Independence Day Celebration: A great additional option if you want to venture a little farther for more small-town Fourth of July fun.
Tips Before You Go
To ensure your Fourth of July is all fun and no stress, keep these tips in mind:
- Arrive Early: This cannot be stressed enough, especially for the 250th anniversary. Parking fills up fast at Gahagan Park and Ashley River Park. If you aren’t there early, you might find yourself walking a long way!
- Stay Hydrated: July in South Carolina is no joke. The humidity can be intense. Bring plenty of water, and if you’re attending an afternoon festival, make sure to find some shade occasionally.
- Pack the Essentials: Don’t forget the bug spray, sunblock, and comfortable chairs. If you’re heading to the laser show or fireworks, a portable fan can be a lifesaver.
- Expect Traffic: When the fireworks end, thousands of people will be trying to leave at the same time. Be patient, have a playlist ready for the car, and expect some delays.
- Check for Updates: Always check the official event pages before you leave your house. Summer storms in the Lowcountry can pop up out of nowhere and may cause schedule changes. You can also keep an eye on Salute from the Shore if you’re planning to catch the flyover along the coast.
